What We Do

Stephenye Avery and her husband Scott Ney brought MerMutts, llc to Sequim, WA in 2023. Stephenye is Heart 2 Heart Level II certified to provide the therapeutic benefits of warm water swimming for your dog. We keep our pool at or near 92 degrees to promote the reduction of pain and inflammation and to enhance muscle tone and range of motion. Swimming can also help with weight, confidence building and mental stimulation to help ease the effects of behavioral issues. Besides that, it’s great exercise and great FUN! Did you know a 15-minute swim is equivalent to a 2 mile walk? It’s great for puppies, too! It can help with socialization and is a safe, low impact exercise while their muscles and bones are growing.

Sessions start at $75

Me

Meet the Chief Executive Mermaid of MerMutts! I grew up swimming “like a fish.” My mom couldn’t get me out of the pool during the summers growing up in Northern Virginia – prune tipped fingers and toes! My love of animals started early. When I got my first dog, Sascha, I had NO idea how deeply I would fall for her and for dogs, in general. I love that they each have their own identity and personality, just like us humans. What an honor to be able to care for them now. My true passion is to help dogs and their humans live together in health and harmony.

Him

A percussionist, a professor at a university, a dog lover – advocate to my passion for working with animals. The most loyal, caring and supportive person and my husband. He has this calm, cool energy that dogs love – they know they are in good hands. Scott will join me part time at the spa until he is able to move to Sequim full time.

Her

Frances Q String Cheese aka Frankie, my rescued mini labradoodle is the spark! She spent her first year of life, by my side, as I managed a doggie resort and spa. There were pools for her to swim and splash in and boy did she! She loves the pool as much as I do, if not more. She grew up at the resort – was named via a “name my puppy contest” and I couldn’t choose just one of the suggested names, so she got 3! She’ll go anywhere, try anything and has never met a stranger – she is my inspiration. She is the logo!
